Prof. Wan Yongge attended the8th APEC Collaboration for Earthquake Simulation Biennial Workshop inHawaii,USA, from October 22 to 27, 2012, on invitation ofUniversityofSouth Carolina. He lectured onStress field around Longmenshan fault system and its convergence phenomenon before the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake.Nearly 100 researchers fromChina,USA,Japan,Australia, and other countries in the field of earthquake and relevant domains attended the Workshop. The Workshop covered topics like simulation of tsunami, windstorm, water logging, landslide, and climate change, etc. Simulation technique was included in earthquake early warning and prediction, and urban disaster alleviation.

As a multilateral cooperative research plan,ACES（APEC Collaboration for Earthquake Simulation）mainly consists scientific research teams of earthquake simulation and prediction from APEC members. This plan aims at simulating vivid earthquake and seismogenic through numerical model in supercomputers, establishing a“virtual lab”to discover the generation of earthquakes, which worked as a powerful tool for researching macro seismogenic and its generation. International work conference was held biennially among geoscience research institutes of APEC members and some European countries, which has convened 7 times. This conference, with worldwide reputation in seismology, involves high level research and large numbers of researchers, and has its collected papers published in PAGEOPH and many other major journals.
