Qi Furong, Secretary of IDP Committee of CPC accompanied a delegation of CEA (China Earthquake Administration) on a visit toIcelandandDenmarkfrom August 7 to 16, 2012, so as to foster and extend cooperation towards volcanic earthquake monitoring, scientific research, and emergency rescue betweenChinaand Nordic countries. The delegation visited IMO (Icelandic Meteorological Office) and its natural hazards data centre, DEMA (Danish Emergency Management Agency), DEMA Sydjylland training centre and DEMA Hedehusene volunteer centre, as well as GSDG (Geological Survey of Denmark andGreenland) and its seismic monitoring networks. During their visit, the delegation investigated the trench between Eurasian Plate and North American Plate, and the spot of eruptions of Eyjafjallajokull. They also studied the volcanic earthquake hazards inIceland.
This visit not only deepens the mutual understanding between CEA and the relevant authorities, institutions, staff of Iceland and Denmark, soliciting international seismological cooperation, but also builds up CEA’s experience in volcanic earthquake research and emergency rescue, benefiting a lot for systematic and interdisciplinary research, synergistic innovation, and disaster alleviation in natural hazards. At the same time, it enlightens the CEA in motivating the rescue team, enhancing the ability to respond and rescue from earthquake, intensifying volunteer training, and improving nationwide rescue force.
