The 15th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering was held from September 24 to September 28, 2012, inLisbon,Portugal. The conference, mainly hosted by the Portuguese Society for Earthquake Engineering, has attracted over 3000 experts, scholars, and engineers from more than 60 countries and regions. Prof. Bo Jingshan (President of Institution of Disaster Prevention), Dr. Cai Xiaoguang and Dr. Lu Tao (Department of Disaster Prevention Engineering), and Dr. Sun Youwei (Comprehensive Disaster Reduction Institution) attended the conference. The conference has collected more than 3600 papers, covering 9 topics, namely: Assessment and reinforcing of existing structures; Designing of new structures; Geotechnical earthquake engineering; Engineering seismology; Lifeline systems; Preparedness and emergency management of large earthquakes; Urban risk assessment; Tsunamis; Social and economic aspects.

Representatives exchanged ideas widely on earthquake engineering. Prof. Bo discussed with foreign experts on site seismic effect, urban earthquake prevention and disaster relief plan, as well as other topics, and introducedthe Abnormality of Seismic Intensity inChinaby posters. Dr. Cai, Dr. Lu, and Dr. Sun introducedthe Comparison of Seismic Fortification Criterion among Asian Countries;1D Nonlinear Analysis ofSite Amplificationin Time Domain: Case Study of Hanyuan County in Wenchuan 512 Earthquake; andXichang Bridge Engineering earthquake hazard predictionin grouped reports and by posters.

By presenting research results in earthquake engineering and relative domains, IDP deepens mutual understanding with worldwide experts in relevant areas, which is significant for improving academic exchange and scientific research cooperation for IDP.
